Fish study observation questions from the Handbook of Nature Study

  1. Where do fish live?
  2. What is the shape of a fish?
  3. Where is the widest part?
  4. How many fins? How many are in pairs? Pectoral fins. Dorsal fins.
  5. Sketch the fish with all its fins and name them.
  6. Make a sketch of the tail. Square, rounded, notched?
  7. Watch the fish swim and describe the action of all the fins while in motion.
  8. Lateral line
  9. Fish eyes
  10. Nostrils
  11. Mouth. Does it open upward, downward or directly in front? What sort of teeth? Why is the mouth in motion?
  12. What is the color above & below?
