Fish study: Betta splendens

The beautiful betta splendens is also known as the Siamese fighting fish. They are also territorial fish that likes to puff up it's body & fins to defend it's territory. The betta fish is also commonly found in paddy fields, however these tend to be more plain or brown color. In captivity, the fish are bred to produce vibrant colors. It has a labyrinth organ that allows it to breathe air from the surface of the water.
